If you’re like us, you can’t help but notice how this country's cash flow is quickly slowing down to a dribble.
We know it's not uncommon for businesses to rely on an open line of credit with their bank to meet payroll from time to time, but companies large and small are going to start hitting a wall as banks begin tightening funds and clients delay payments as long as they possibly can.
Even in the best of times, some of the big studios (and we all know which ones) have been known to take upwards of six months to pay invoices for work long since delivered. First, they insist that a purchase order request be submitted. Usually they "misplace" this and so an actual signed PO isn't issued for months while vendors wait and wait and wait, afraid to even bring the subject up with their client for fear of appearing pushy or ungrateful.
Meanwhile, their vendors are facing an office filled with all those pesky employees sitting around like baby birds with their beaks wide open waiting to get a paycheck every two weeks.
Doubtless we'll start to see a shift in the workforce to more freelancers, who can be strung along for 40, 60, 90, 180 days, afraid to even bring the subject up with their client for fear of appearing pushy or ungrateful.
