Thomas Kinkade: "Photoshopper of Light"

In artist Ron Lemen’s sublime Godzilla vs. Kincade, Godzilla is clearly a visual metaphor for Amy Pinto-Walsh, Kinkade’s live-in girlfriend and personal assistant.

Apparently the death of the famous “Painter of Light” (after a valium and alcohol overdose) has pitted Kinkade’s wife, family and close friends against Pinto-Walsh in a fight over his legacy and public image.

A restraining order alleges that Pinto-Walsh was privy to information about how Kinkade created his paintings, including "the use of computer technology" in painting.

"If these trade secrets were disclosed, the Kinkade businesses would suffer irreparable harm," said the attorney for Kinkade’s family. 

No mention was made of Kinkade’s penchant for marking his territory by urination, which hopefully will remain enshrined in his golden oeuvre.

There Is Nothing More Powerful Than An Interactive Data Visualization Whose Time Has Come.

A Software Engineer by the name of Vijay Pandurangan created an interactive infographic showing how colors have evolved in movie poster from 1914 to today.

Click on the large color graph on his site, if you then click on any of the years, it will take you to a pie chart showing the breakdown of movie titles/colors. The pie chart has a slider at the top that you can then drag to go from 1914 to 2012.

 

How he did it:

"I downloaded ~ 35k thumbnailed-size images...from a site that has a lot of movie posters online. I then grouped the movie posters by the year in which the movie they promoted was released. For each year, I counted the total number of pixels for each colour in the year. After normalizing and converting to HSL coordinates, I generated the visualizations."

Like The Title Isn't Pornographic Enough

Jism 2 posters have reportedly been removed in Mumbai, India following accusations of obscenity.

Mahesh Bhatt, the film’s writer and producer, said: “Censoring images created by the human mind has been going on since the dark ages."

Bhatt neglected to mention that the human mind that created the image copied it from a poster for a Felix Bendish fashion show.
