Caving to studio pressure, the Motion Picture Association of America has decided to withhold reporting how much money was spent on marketing movies last year.
Pointing out what an utter waste of time accounting is these days, MPAA Chairman and CEO Dan Glickman admitted, "Year-to-year average costs comparisons are really useless and misleading. I'm not sure what these numbers mean anymore."
It's rumored that Glickman is rolling over and showing his belly to studio big wigs who feel the MPAA hasn’t done its darndest to lobby for tax breaks for Hollywood in the federal stimulus package.
Fueling even more rumors by denying the rumors, Glickman said, "This is not about us trying to protect ourselves on the lobbying side. There's nothing conspiratorial about this."
That's right, Dorothy. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
Nothing to see here, move along.
