If you’re like us, you're wondering what sort of
organization is it that bestows a Visionary Award on a big ol’ meatball like
Sylvester Stallone.
We did some investigative Googlin’ and found this New York Magazine article from 2008 that provides a quantitative analysis of the religious/ political/ artistic
characteristics inherent in a Stallone one-sheet:
The minimalist, black-silhouetted Rambo posters adorning the
city’s streets and subways are the work of Jason Lindeman of Ignition Print, a
Santa Monica, California–based design firm. The stencil-and-spray-paint image,
created as a T-shirt design, is far less violent than previous Rambo-movie
posters (Rambo wearing a machine gun, Rambo wearing grenades, etc.), and Tim
Palen, co-president of marketing for Lionsgate, recently explained the thinking
behind the peaceful posters to the New York Times. It’s “Che Guevara crossed
with Jesus Christ by way of Andy Warhol,” he said. “In a way, he’s all of
those.”
Mistrusting higher mathematics as we do, we prefer the
simple arithmetic equation of one plus one equals Bansky.
Or it's just a Banksy ripoff.

Uh, duh, Pierre.

I saw a version where some bright spark had added Sly's right hand flashing the peace sign. Brilliant.

meh.. I can't get it up to bag on Jason, I find him to be very talented. I knew him when his career was just getting started and that boy can design.
Don't forget who else helps massage the poster to finish.
I wonder what all the comps looked like before they were ran through the studio exec washing machine.

Seems to me the only thing being bagged on was Palen's pomposity.

Tim Palen's a genius!!! Bill Bernbach crossed with Saul Bass by way of Paul Lynde.

Tp and JL are both to blame. TP has no original ideas. Ever. JL has been ripping people off since he was a tiny little art director way back when. He wins awards for it. It's a shame. He's given a once great industry a black eye.

The good ol' days weren't so good - we just didn't have a mass media form of communication on which to vent in real time.

McLurkerson is right.
The whining is just getting to my nerves.
