A Reader Asks: Is Narcolepsy the New Action Poster Cliché?

Dear Edwina,

Taken 2, Lockout, and The Dark Knight Rises all have posters where the protagonist appears to have fallen asleep while standing. Colin Farrell is so close to nodding off in the Total Recall teaser that I couldn't resist adding a few pixels to help him get forty winks with his finger on the trigger.

 Maybe marketing departments are conveying the message that by napping on the poster, these heroes will be well rested for the movie? Maybe designers have worked so many late nights that their desire to sleep has permeated their work? Or maybe this is just a natural progression after a handful of posters where people appeared to fall asleep on their guns.
